29Its elementary gym class all over again. You know, when the teacher chooses the two most popular kids in the class as captains, and they take turns picking out people for their teams. They just keep picking, until there's that one kid left, because from some idiotic reason they always make the classes odd-numbers. Then that kid gets to stand there awkwardly while the teacher sighs, because it's always the same damn kid, and tries to figure out what to do while he ignores the fact that the kid is now staring at the floor pretending that the pressure they're feeling in their eyes is just allergies. Wiener BluesThe dinner table is a symbolic setting; a place of family bonding, childish food fights, and serious conversations. It is the center of one's home and the common ground of a family, no matter how different they may be.

The table at my house is a stage; meant for hosting hostile silences and raised voices. The unfortunate audiences are forced to sit and watch the scenes play out around them, and have the luck to become a part of the show.

There are grooves in the underside of the table from where I had worked my thumbnails into the cheap material as I waited for my brother to finish talking about his day at school. I picked at my beans, swirWiener Blues by ~wierdmonkeyperson

Breaking DishesA loud bang echoes through the house, cutting off the sound of the screaming and yelling. There's a stretch of silence, broken only by your gasps. You brace yourself against the wall, chest still heaving. The hallway stretches itself out in front of you, past the overturned chair to the pile of fallen jackets, all the way to the closed door.

"Mommy?" a voice comes from the stairwell, sock-covered feet just visible in the corner of your eye. Smashing your fist into the wood behind you, she jumps, dropping her stuffed bunny onto the floor.

"Go to your room!" you snarl, hand tearing at your shirt when she doesn't move.

"Now!"

Hello random person who is looking at my page.

My name is Alexandra, though I am most often called Alex.

I'm currently a highschool student at my regional arts school as a vocal music major. I plan to go to university for general arts and possibly design, then go into either journalism or interior design and architecture.

I am a published writer, my pieces including several poems, short stories and articles. It is my dream to be an accomplished novelist in the future.

I take prompts, requests and ideas. I welcome constructive critism and comments.

I haven't written a journal since February. Oh well.

Obviously I have not posted much. This is less due to a lack of production (which I have written a lot, unusually) and more just quality control and reluctance to go through the posting process.

I'm nearing the end of my school writer's craft course, which has helped me in so many ways. I'll be posting some of the final poetry and prose pieces shortly.

On that note, I somehow feel that these will be some of the last poems I will ever post. Over the last few months I've realized how much I enjoy writing full-fledged stories and being able to expand beyond what poetry can allow me. Because of that I will be posting prose, but at the same time I probably won't post much at all because of how picky I am about my stories. I have two prose stories to post now, and it may be a very long time till the rest is ready.

How does anyone feel about a new Elizabeth Bathory novel being sent to a publisher....?
